Jio Star Website Goes Live Ahead of Merger of Reliance Jio and Disney+ Hotstar

This week is anticipated to see the completion of the merger between Viacom18, a division of Reliance Jio, and Star India Private Limited. Ahead of the expected completion, a new website has emerged that may house the new over-the-top (OTT) service created by the merger of Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema, two well-known streaming services in India. In recent weeks, there has been a dispute on social media about it because it went live with a different domain than the one that was previously widely thought to have been adopted and, as a result, purchased by another party.

According to @yabhishekhd, the new over-the-top platform is rumored to be called Jio Star, and its domain is jiostar.com. It is thought to begin providing streaming services to consumers on November 14, one day following the expected merger announcement. The website is already operational, however it merely says “Jio Star Coming Soon.” Once it launches, content from both OTT platforms should be accessible in this one area.

However, according to reports, Disney’s Hotstar app would be the only way to watch all live sporting events, including the well-known Indian Premier League (IPL). According to earlier reports, JioCinema was anticipated to join with Disney+ Hotstar, given the latter’s superior technical features.

In anticipation of the merger, a Delhi-based app developer purchased the domain and requested that they be paid a sum of money to fund their studies if the companies wished to own it. A debate spurred on social media and in subsequent days, it was then purchased by two Dubai-based residents. In a recent development, the current owners announced the decision to give away the domain to Reliance Jio free of cost.
